M. Shummer

“Unreal, Yet Recognisable World – Paintings by Magdalena Shummer” is an exhibition at the National Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw, presenting the artist’s paintings from the circle of the so-called non-professional art. The artist describes her style as poetic realism, yet her works are not only poetic, but magical. Her paintings are characterised by an extraordinary attention to detail and an intense colour palette.

The exhibition project was guided by the idea of zero waste. We used wooden cubes and display cabinets from the Museum’s furnishings and gave them a new character by painting them in strong colours contrasting with the pastel shades of the walls. T“`he cubics were used as structural elements for walls and seatings. The exhibition was equipped with many accessibility materials for people with disabilities (audio materials, tactile graphics, etc.). For promotional purposes we created the exhibition’s visual identity based on a collage of motifs from the artist’s paintings.
